about
i caught a cold so i made a demo. i recorded it into a tape machine because i felt like it. these aren't the lyrics, style, or structure i plan for the actual song cuz this was almost entirely improvised. just be glad i edited it down from 11 minutes.
i don't have anything against the "pop punk bands hate this town" playlist or pop punk, it was the last video i watched before i wrote the lyrics and i thought it would be funny. it wasn't. no shade.

lyrics
i'd give anything to be by own goddamn person but i don't know what they'd look like
all i have to my name is twenty bucks and a dumb fuckin haircut
swamp, you're a great kid but you need to, take a hike, get out of your own head
i gotta get out of this town before i turn twenty and get more disillusioned
you can't put me on the "pop punk bands hate this town" playlist because i'm not pop punk
you're not helping me get out of this funk
it's been four fuckin years
i've heard nothing but white noise in my ears
the next town over's no better and the city's worse
finding out there's no way out just really hurts
the next town over's no better and the city's worse
finding out there's no way out just really hurts
the next town over's no better and the city's worse
finding out there's no way out just really hurts
the next town over's no better and the city's worse
finding out there's no way out just really hurts
until the day you die
your parents will say, "take the college only 10 minutes away"
but i don't want to see you every fucking day
so i'm ending up as far as a plane can take me away
(yeah i rhymed away with away... whatever)
and on the day they die they'll leave me
a broken shell of what we could be
and when we clean out her room
there'll be no place left for me but the moon (it just fuckin hurts)
it just fuckin hurts
and if i dieeeeeeee
launch me into space, and forget me
you'll be better off
if i die, launch me into space and forget me
you'll be better oooooff
but i'll never die
so please don't forget me
but i'll never die
so please don't forget me.
(one take. definitely one take only.)

the joke is that this took many takes to get right.
apologies to: all the bands i ripped off (Los Campesinos!, Starry Cat, Girlfriends, Car Seat Headrest, The Wonder Years, Lovejoy, and whoever i accidentally copied lyrics from cuz i probably did), rae of sunshine, and the wizard cloud.
if you somehow haven't heard glass beach yet please just listen. the synths are perfect, the guitars go hard, and there is more emotion in this album than i could imagine fitting into my discography. swamp_child
this album made me rethink what music is from the ground up in the best way possible. if that sounds too pretentious for minimalist math rock it also really inspired how i mix my stuff. check it out. swamp_child
